COSPLAY WEAPON RULES
The team at Granite City Comic-Con aim to create a safe and secure environment for all cosplay entrants and everyone else who attends the event. In conjunction with this policy the following series of safe weapon and prop rules have been established.
All attendees are reminded that it is their responsibilities to comply with any laws and legislation regarding weapons, imitation weapons and props, along with their usage.
Granite City Comic-Con attendees are under no circumstances allowed to possess or bring to the convention grounds any actual weapons. Unlawful possession of a weapon is an offence. There are mandatory inspections performed by Granite City Comic-Con team members for all event attendees with any type of non-firearm weapon, imitation replica or props. As a general rule and under no circumstances are metal objects allowed to be brought on to the conventions grounds.
- Guns and projectile weapons:-
Actual firearms including Airsoft, modern, hunting or historic, either functioning or de-commissioned, are not permitted at Granite City Comic-Con. Replica firearms made from metal, solid resin/plastic/rubber are not to be brought onto convention grounds. All other firearm replicas are required to have orange safety tips at all times on convention grounds, however they can be removable for photography or competition purposes as long as they are re-attached when moving around the convention.
NO props or weapons capable of firing any projectile (Including Airsoft) or powder charge of any kind. This is for the safety of both yourself and the people around you. Nerf guns and other foam dart guns are allowed, but they must not have any foam darts loaded at any time.
Bows and slingshots are allowed, however, they must be de-strung. There must be no capacity to fire any object from the bow or slingshot. Arrows and other items used in bows or slingshots are prohibited.
Absolutely no naked flames, explosions, arcs or bursts of exposed electricity will be allowed under any circumstance. Gas canisters or any other vessel containing gas held under pressure are forbidden, regardless of what gas is contained. Common items such as deodorant are unaffected.
Granite City Comic-Con does not allow ANY laser pointers to be used on the convention grounds. If you have a laser pointer in your prop or weapon, make sure it cannot function by either removing the batteries, or simply not bringing it.
- Swords, blades, knives and other weapons
Metal swords, metal knives and other active martial arts weapons are not allowed to be brought onto any of the convention grounds. Failure to comply will result in banning from the event and local authorities will be contacted.
- Weapons prop length, weight and shape restrictions
No props or weapons exceeding 2 metres in length are allowed to be carried around the convention grounds. If they are found to exceed this length, they are to be immediately taken to the weapons check-in desk and checked in there until you leave the convention or require the item for the competition, photography or other special commitments i.e. guest autographs.
No items can have sharp points, sharp edges, excessive weight or any other features that could be deemed dangerous to others i.e. we do not allow metal replica samurai swords, BB guns/air guns even if they are not loaded. If the items are not approved during inspection, they are forbidden on convention grounds. Failure to comply will result in being escorted off the event premises and banned from the event.
Please consider how heavy your props are because you are going to either be carrying them all day, or be forced to check them in at the weapons check-in desk if they are deemed too heavy to be at the event. The weapons check-in is NOT a cloak room; it is storage for items which Granite City Comic-Con deems unsuitable to be on the convention floor.
- Items purchased while at the event
Attendees who purchase imitation or replica weapon such as metal movie swords or knives from Vendors/Exhibitors must not remove items from their original packaging within the convention grounds and ensure that they are kept out of site when travelling to and from the convention.
- Legal Stuff
Granite City Comic-Con will not be held legally responsible or liable for any misconduct, damages, injuries or death resulting from the actions of any Granite City Comic-Con attendee. Any inappropriate behaviour or misconduct by any attendee will not be tolerated by Granite City Comic-Con or local authorities. Please use your best judgment and discretion by refraining from swinging weapons around, as there is always the possibility of injuring other convention attendees.
If you have concerns over your props please contact Cosplay@GraniteCityComicCon.com if you have any queries or are unsure about anything at all and include some photos so we can get back to you.
